Switch between Teacher and Student mode

One Bút Nghiên account works in both modes. You can switch modes at any time from the account menu; the data of the other mode is kept as it is.

Steps

  1. Click your avatar in the top right corner to open the account menu.
  2. In Teacher mode: click “Switch to Student”. In Student mode: click “Switch to Teacher”.
  3. Wait for the “Switching mode...” message to finish. Bút Nghiên opens the “Overview” page of the new mode, and the left sidebar changes to match that mode.
  4. To check which mode you're in: go to “Settings”; the “Current mode” field says “Teacher mode” or “Student mode”.

Options and limits

Teacher mode
Create classes, write exams, give assignments, grade work and view analytics.
Student mode
Join classes with a code, take exams, submit assignments, see your results and your Mistakes notebook.
Your data when switching modes
Nothing is lost. The classes, exams and assignments you created in Teacher mode are still there; the classes you joined and the work you did in Student mode are still there too. Each mode only shows its own work.
Who can switch
Teacher and student accounts with a verified email. Administrator accounts don't have a switch mode button.
Trying out your own exam
Practice-mode exams you created yourself appear in “Exams” in Student mode with the “Self-practice” label. Click “Practice this exam” to try it as a student.

Common errors and how to fix them

  • “Couldn't switch mode. Your current session is unchanged.” → you're still in the old mode. Reload the page and try again; if it still fails, sign out and sign in again.
  • “Teacher accounts can't enroll in a class as a student.” when opening a class link → click “Switch to Student”, then open the link again.
  • The mode you chose for “Which mode do you want to start with?” when signing up is just your starting mode; you can switch at any time.
  • In Student mode, you can't open teacher pages (grading, class scores). To see them, switch back to Teacher mode.
